Basset Hound

The Basset Hound is an ancient breed used for centuries in France and Belgium as a hunting dog.

Beagle

The Beagle's date of origin is thought to be around 1300 A.D. Although the breed did not begin to take on its present day appearance until after the 1860's.

Bearded Collie

Almost extinct by 1944, every Bearded Collie alive today is the offspring of the dogs " Jeannie" and " Ballie," who were owned by Mrs. G. O. Willison of the Bothkennar Kennels.

Bichon Frise

A favorite of Italian nobility and the French aristocracy, the Bichon Frise was originally called Barbichon, and is descended from the Mediterranean Barbet.

Bloodhound

Also known as the St. Hubert Hound, the Bloodhound is and ancient breed, more than a thousand years old.

Border Collie

This breed was originally brought to Scotland by invading Vikings. It was further developed by later crossings with Valee sheep dogs, and used by Shepherds in the hilly Scottish border.

Boston Terrier

Robert Hooper, of Boston, is thought to have mixed an English Bulldog, an English Terrier mixed breed named "Judge," a white French Bulldog, and a Toy Bulldog mixed breed named "Gyp" to produce the first Boston Terrier.

Bouvier

des Flandres

The Bouvier of Belgian Cattle Dog, originated on the French northern plain and southwest Flandres.

Boxer

In 1887 Herr George Alt and Herr George Lechner of Munich, Germany, set out to create a breed of super dog, by crossing a boxer type bitch from France with a local dog called Boxl.

Brittany

The Brittany's actual origin is not entirely clear, but dogs looking very much like the modern day Brittany appear in paintings and tapestries dating from the 17th century.

Bulldog

The Bulldog derives his name from the sport of bullbathing for which it was used prior to 1835.
